LED Light Therapy

Targeted wavelengths of light to support skin function, recovery and renewal. LED Light Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive modality that uses specific wavelengths of visible and near-infrared light to interact with biological processes within the skin.

I use a flexible LED system that allows light therapy to be incorporated into both in-clinic and private in-home Skin Rituals, with treatment selected according to the condition of the skin and the intention of the programme. The system combines four wavelengths — red, yellow, blue and near-infrared light — allowing different combinations to be used according to the needs of the skin. Near-infrared light is incorporated across each treatment mode.

Red Light is used within photo biomodulation to support cellular activity and processes associated with skin recovery, collagen production and healthy tissue function. I may incorporate red light where the focus is on skin resilience, recovery and healthy ageing.

Near-Infrared Light - Invisible to the human eye, near-infrared light penetrates more deeply than visible wavelengths. It is used to support tissue response and recovery and accompanies each of the light combinations within the system.

Blue light is particularly relevant to blemish-prone skin. At this wavelength, light interacts with naturally occurring porphyrins associated with acne, making it a useful modality within appropriately selected acne and congestion programmes.

Yellow light may be incorporated where the treatment intention is to support a calmer, more even-looking complexion. Evidence for yellow LED is less established than for red, near infrared and blue light, so I use it as a complementary wavelength within an individualised treatment protocol.

Combined Light Therapy - Red, yellow and blue light can also be delivered together with near-infrared light, allowing multiple wavelengths to be incorporated within one treatment where appropriate.

Because LED does not rely on heat, abrasion or controlled injury to the skin's surface, it can also complement other modalities where supporting the skin's recovery is part of the treatment intention. In Clinic or In Your Home - The flexible nature of the LED system allows me to bring light therapy beyond the treatment room. It can be incorporated into a Private Skin Ritual at home, used across the face and selected areas of the body, or incorporated into a longer-term skin programme where regular treatment is beneficial.
