High Frequency

High Frequency is a non-invasive electrotherapy modality that has been used within professional skin treatments for many years. The treatment uses a glass electrode containing gas through which a high-frequency alternating electrical current is passed. When the electrode is applied to or held just above the skin, it produces the characteristic glow and gentle electrical discharge associated with high-frequency treatment. I particularly value High Frequency as a complementary modality within treatments for congested, blemish-prone and acne-affected skin, rather than as a stand-alone solution for acne.

Argon & Neon Electrodes

I use both argon/violet and neon/orange glass electrodes, selected according to the treatment protocol.

The colour comes from the gas contained within the glass electrode and the light emitted when that gas is electrically excited. Traditionally, violet/blue-appearing electrodes are associated with argon-containing tubes, while orange/red electrodes are generally associated with neon-containing tubes.

Argon electrodes when used correctly within a treatment plan can significantly support as a complementary modality for its antimicrobial actions on the skin and scalp. It can support the balance of sebum production when we are working with acne prone skin and other bacterial skin conditions. Neon Electrodes stimulate blood flow and cellular turnover and can work well within a treatment to prepare the skin for absorption of infusions.
